Which do you prefer? I lived in Melbourne for 5 years and have been in Sydney for 3.5 years now. I think I still prefer Melbourne but Sydney is *finally* starting to grow on me. As an aside, I lived in Perth for 7 years before Melbourne. It's a good city but too isolated and too hot for me (being born and raised in cold Canada )

I'm a Melbourne man myself (spent majority of life here), but I did live in Sydney for three years as a kid. Both places have their good and bad points. As far as tourism goes, I think Sydney is the best city in Australia, and is right up there with the best in the world.

I've never lived in either but I've been to both enough times to know I prefer Melbourne, apart from the crappy weather down there.

Sydney = Pretentiuos (spelling??) Melbourne = Cold most of the time with lightweight, eletis(spelling again??), clicking out, pretend rock musos. And it's a fact that Victorian's are a smarter buch of peolple in general.

If the Victorian population is so smart, why is it that you can't spell ClubberLang? "Victorians are a smarter 'buch' of people in general"??

Yeah it's happening to some extent in Brisbane. The Healer is probably the best middle-size venue in Brisbane and it is closing down by the end of the year. Admittedly the circumstances are understandable, as the owner is selling up after his brother's death to help out his family.
In fact the Valley in Brisbane is slowly being gobbled up by money hungry developers who are turning the place into a 'yuppified' mass of 'trendy' clubs. Within the last few weeks another pub in the Valley that used to book bands was renovated and turned into a 'trendy' bar.
On the other hand, there is a relatively new venue in the northern suburbs of Brisbane that is really looking after the bands. There is no cover charge and drinks are at public bar prices, so that is real encouraging.
