MIDNITE SNAKE Midnite Snake (Birdman Records)
This adventurous instrumental jam grabs you by the throat and throws you hard up against the wall from the outset with its late 60’s, early 70’s blend of undiluted, blues infused acid rock. As this instrumental trio set about creating a maximum musical onslaught, walls of fuzz-laden psychedelia cascade from the speakers at an ear shattering level. ‘Ambassadors Of Throttle’ works a repetitive bass riff and transverses similar sonic territory to Atomic Bitchwax. The hyper frantic drumming of ‘Oral Sex Pt. 1’ takes on a garage punk vibe, while the supremely overdriven guitar absolutely roars from the speakers at an absolutely wicked level, which seems intent to cause serious bodily harm.
‘He Ain’t My Brother, He’s Heavy’ is a sprawling, spaced out jam with stabbing blasts of spinning and phased Hendrix-styled guitar heroics. The ear-shattering psychedelia of the garage punk inflected ‘Snake Bite At Midnite’ is competing on the same playing field as Volume. As the title suggests, ‘Acid Wash’ takes you on a mesmerising journey to the centre of the mind, without the need for any chemicals to achieve that mind-altering state of warped consciousness. Midnite Snake has seemingly turned a simple desire to jam into an awesome display of musical virtuosity on this purely instrumental album.
