HARPOONTANG The Day After You (Independent) While playing juvenile, disrespectful, sexist, misogynistic, puerile rock n’ roll may get your ego stroked by similar-minded individuals in your own isolated world, it does the world no favours: leaving the male section of society believing that penis-power is legit, and the women-folk are naught but playthings. Take intelligent song titles such as the opener ‘I Wanna Fuck You, You Wanna Fuck Me’, ‘You Need Dick’ or ‘I’m A Pain In Your Ass’ as prime examples. Hey, in your world offensive may be cool. However in my humble opinion further disempowering one gender while reinforcing negative social constructs upon another is neither cool nor wanted. And as bad as the lyrical concepts of Harpoontang are, it perhaps wouldn’t be so bad if the music were of some quality. But… as anyone willing to put his or her hand up for a free copy will attest to, this just sucks outright. Extremely basic rock n’ roll in the vein of B-grade KISS or Rose Tattoo is as bad as it can get. Not even the slapped-together packaging can save this tripe. Truly a masterpiece in uselessness if ever there was one. Warren Wheeler Artist website: www.tequiladave.comBuy this album: www.tequiladave.com

Hey Warren, it is what it is. Don't try to analyze it like some head shrinking reject. I'm a woman and Iget the humour. I'm not the slightest bit offended because I'm comfortable with who I am. Lighten up.

As long as women continue to be objectified by the media for the sole purpose of selling a product, and continue to receive a far lower wage than their male counterparts, and continue to be the prime victims of sexual assault I will not 'lighten up'. Certain women may very well find such crass of humourous value - and that's their choice. However I would argue that internal oppression is just as damaging (if not moreso) as the external. Humanity needs uplifting not degrading. Such action starts with the 'self'
apart from any of that, the music on this cd is just plain bad. there is no saving grace ... production, artwork, lyrics... it's all b-grade quality.

As long as women continue to be objectified by the media for the sole purpose of selling a product, and continue to receive a far lower wage than their male counterparts, and continue to be the prime victims of sexual assault I will not 'lighten up'. Boy you write like some angry bitter bitch! Look man, I'm just talking about SEX...and a lifstyle. I love sex, the girls I have sex with love sex. And they are all great women I love and respect. Fact is ROCK n ROLL is based on PUSSY. Dating back to 1849...it's all about booze and pussy. Those are the facts. Hear me out Sparky, I've been been in this business over 20 years... and being serious and commercial got me nowhere except pissed off. I'm having more fun now fucking off and doing what I want then trying to please some cocksucker at TVT or J- records. So until women, married and single stop showing me their tweeters and sticking their fat ass's in my face I'm gonna keep writing what's given to me. You need to get laid, and by someone who likes you for a change. That... I think is your problem. The fact that you hate the music is cool with me, I don't care about that... it's a 50/50 split right now anyway, but to attack the content when bands promote killing and death and stuff way more stupid than what I do is really bad. Anyway, I still love the review, you really sound mad. It got lots of laughs at the bar and will be on the site for our next updates. Thanks again and have a great day. I'd like to see some deathmetal dickhead show ya how to make a holiday turkey or tell ya what tequilas are good. It's more than music, it's how we live! TD

Hey, it's just a cd review! That is; a critique of the entire package. From songwriting to marketing, my role is to opine on what is given me. It's not that I am angry so much as it is about me being fed up with rock n' roll being associated with shallow, ignorant, juvenile, power-abusing males.
I would argue that rock n roll has not been based on "booze and pussy" since 1849. It is based rather on the blues of africans brought to the americas as slaves. It was their way of speaking their struggle as they were socially voiceless. to say they were just wanting a bit of action in the sack is to trivilaize their plight and miss the point completely.
it is this ignorant, self-obssessed, party-hardy attitude that gets me 'angry'. i challenge you to show me a review on thesoundmonitor (written by me) that advocates the killing of others. i personally refuse to cover acts that are in any way degrading or disrespecting others. On the contrary i think you will find that thesoundmonitor makes a conscious effort to cover artists that have something interesting and constructive to say - the ones that challenge the status quo and not perpetuate it.
on a personal note TD, i have found all correspondence with you to be friendly and light. i have no beef with you as an individual. but i do question your position on the objectification of women and the further degradation of the male image.
