OMEGALORD Omegalord EP (Independent) The cover of Omegalord's new EP is a caricature of a cigar-smokin' bald eagle with bundles of weapons clenched in his talons. The caption might as well be "to hell with patience, I'm HUNGRY," because that's the vibe that rolls off this slab of stompin' southern dirt metal. Vocalist The Reverend and crew are marching to hell on the skeletons of unbelievers, and if you get in the way, well, they'd be happy to add yours to the pile. The Rev's bellowed vocals are pure metal hellfire, but melodic for all that. The guitars could use a little goosing in the mix but they get the point across, and the rhythm section rams n' slams like they get paid by the gallon for the amount of sweat they produce. And with band-member names like Deebo and Race, you know you're going to have fun. Can there be any doubt that these guys bring it live? Nope. This music will appeal to a wide variety of discerning riff rock fanatics, such as those into Orange Goblin, Alabama Thunder Pussy, Motorhead, Raging Slab, Spiritual Beggars, and Entombed. So if punishing, powerful, hard-driving rock with a southern flair is your thing - and I certainly wouldn't kick it out of bed - then you'll dig these alkeehol-swiggin' brothers.
