Band: Log Album: 10 Songs of Log Format: CD Label: High Beam Year: 2001 Time: 22 minutes Track list: Turned to Salt Motor Woman Poppin’ the Hood Wooden Cake Test Subject Love is a Log Willy Willy Switchin’ my Mind Right Off Heavy Air Bananas Cover photo: highbeammusic.net/label/Log is a side project featuring members of a couple of Australian bands; Pod People and Shifter. One look at the inside cover, showing the band members wearing clear robbery-type masks lets you know that these guys don’t take themselves too seriously, although the concise songs (10 in 22 minutes!) stand quite well on their own. The group features a variety of influences, from grind to doom to metal to blues. ‘Turned to Salt’ opens the album in doomy style, followed by ‘Motor Woman,’ which sounds like COC through a grind filter. ‘Heavy Air’ starts off laid-back and bluesy, while ‘Switchin’ my Mind Right Off’ boasts a sludgey, grinding sound with babbling, shouted, distorted vocals. The album ends with ‘Bananas,’ their tribute to Sabbath’s ‘Rat Salad,’ but far more toe-tappin’ than the original. Throughout the album the guitars have a dense, sludge-licious sound, interspersed with the occasional harmonica or concise guitar solo. If you’re into Eyehategod’s more upbeat, melodic moments, the abrasive grind of Iron Monkey, or dense metal with a heavy groove, dig on Log. With 10 songs averaging just over 2 minutes apiece, there’s not much fat on this sucka! Kevin McHugh

True dat! We definitely need a cultural exchange package tour-4 or 5 of the best Highbeam bands in exchange for.....what? I need to re-check the "bands I'd like to see" thread, or whatever it was called.........

Sounds like a great idea dad, however with the thousands of miles of that blue stuff that seperates us and the mighty Aussie dollar not worth the paper it's printed on I can't see too many US bands lining up to come down here. In fact I'm a little suprised we get as many (Fu manchu, Nebula) as we do!

Read somewhere recently that the Fu reckon Aussie is the best place on earth. Must be that extra laid-back california-like sun and surf thing we got down here.
Apparently their latest tour was against management recommendations or something cause they might do it at a loss. Fuckin good on ya Fu!
Oh shit!
.... runs off to buy tic...

Well, I guess living in a coastal paradise has its advantages for you all; after all, it gets Fu down there even when they lose money! Nice!
