THE KNIVES OF NEPTUNE: Demo From the very moment The Knives Of Neptune hit your speakers you know you’re in for a treat. Featuring former members of Melbourne’s hardcore icons Fallopian Tube, TKON take a more diverse approach in what they have dubbed ‘Space Punk’. Drawing from influences as impeccable as At The Drive-In and Cave In the quintet hit the ground running with ‘How to Applaud a Car Crash’ – a track that swerves through hardcore punches, emo hooks and screamo momentum. The off-kilter backing melodies compliment the crushing rhythm movements and lo-fi recording, though leaving nary a doubt that with a decent budget, these guys would simply kill! Track 2 is just a little sci-fi sounding ditty pieced together as an introduction to the final track ‘The Only Astronaut in Space’. This latter tune continues the path worn on the opening track, though less immediate in nature. Drawing out the verses a bit longer leaves the band room to experiment with structures and dance-able melodies and haunting atmosphere, matched only by the closing ferocity. Having just completed a mini-tour , the band are busy honing their craft and I, for one, am particularly anxious to see what they do, and where they go.
