Truckfighters vs Firestone The Fuzzsplit of the Century (Fuzzorama) I'm never keen on anyone that blows their own trumpet without being able to back it up in a big way. So I was a little put off this split CD to start with. The split is called ‘The Fuzzsplit of the Century’ but contains two bands I’ve barely heard of. I’m hoping the intentions behind naming the split were akin to Faith No More’s ‘album of the year’, and not for the more obvious reason. There are two tracks from each band on this promo but neither band gives us anything ground breaking new. Both bands are heavy comparisons with fellow Swedish band The Awesome Machine (TAM). Truckfighters has that European stoner sound down pat. With vocals that sound more like a fuzzy version of Nebula or Solarized. In both songs Truckfighters have the typical quieter mellow stoner section before bursting back into the rock. They do show a bit of variety in the second track with an acoustic and even birds tweeting. Firestone are more straight up and in your face stoner than Truckfighters. They manage to nail that heavy thumping bass & drums sound just like TAM, to the extent that you could be forgiven for thinking it was possibly the new TAM album at times. Their second track has a couple of riffs throughout that remind me of a tuned down, fuzzed up Brant Bjork. While it may not be the fuzzsplit of the century, it’s not a bad CD. Both bands are enjoyable to listen to and both show some good potential for the future. Fans of European stoner and TAM should look out for this one. www.fuzzoramarecords.com
