The Pygmies– 8-Song Demo Review by: Kevin McHugh (StonerRock.com) Self-Released Release date: Available Now Sometimes it pays to be unconventional. After all, its not every band that has the balls to release their demo with no vocals, yet The Pygmies have done just that, and it appears that they’ve done it as a matter of choice. I guess they can give up on the idea of big radio play, ‘cause all the little dorks would wonder “wha’ happen to the vocals” and refuse to buy it. What’s an unimaginative dirtbag to do? Go back to sleep; this one’s not for you. But for those of you who miss the great Karma to Burn, listen up. The Pygmies, who’ve had singers in the past but have now opted for a two-guitar attack, will fill the void left by the sadly lamented West Virginia masters of instro rawk. The Pygmies put their own stamp on the wall o’ riff noise, however. To me they seem a bit looser, with more variety to their sound. Nevertheless, they’ve got riffs and power to spare. No, this isn’t ‘Almost Heathen’ vol. 2. It’s a demo from a bunch of satanic South Cackalackians with a goofy sense of humor. And yet….they’ve got the tooth, fang, and claw to make you tap your feets while dreaming of hunting for endangered species with an air rifle. So if you’re wondering how to follow up your next listen of ‘Wild, Wonderful Purgatory,’ give The Pygmies a buzz. www.thepygmies.com
