Action Adventure Systems – S/T Review by: Kevin McHugh (StonerRock.com) Self-Released Release date: Available now
Action Adventure Systems luxuriate in stoned-out noise. This chemically-damaged power trio is so far underground that they’re liable to turn up gigging in an old van on the curb in front of your house, with a “light show” consisting of a flashlight and some old black cats blowing up inside the bass drum. Pretentious they ain’t.
There’s no artwork associated with this disc, nor is there a song list anywhere. There APPEARS to be 9 songs in 23 minutes. The music is best characterized as death punk psychedelic noise. Thrash without math. Its madcap I tell ya! One song is evidently called ‘This is the Way the World Works,’ with the title yelled tunelessly over a bashing punk rhythm section and a guitar flung straight into the stratosphere. The last three tunes are spaced-out instros that seem to be sections of much longer stoned jams. They even throw a bit of jazz into the mix. Quick, someone give these guys more drugs, before they start making sense!
This sounds like it was recorded in a garage with the aid of much chemical stimulation. Its not for everyone but, sadly, many of the self-important fucks that need to hear it never will. This is the perfect complement to a 3-day Firebird and skunkweed binge, where you wind up in jail in some city you’ve never heard of before.
Action Adventure Systems: Straight outta Brooklyn!
