Gutbucket – Bullfight Blues Review by: Kevin McHugh (StonerRock.com) Meisterbetrieb/Alive Release date: Available now Gutbucket is from northern Germany, but you’d never know it from the music and artwork on their sophomore full-length, ‘Bullfight Blues.’ The imagery is straight-up wild western, with gunfighters, barroom whores, and bulls galore. When you listen to the tuneage, well, you’ll think you’re listening to that rarest of breeds, a heavy, hard-rockin’ American radio station that actually plays good new tunes. Ah, would that such stations actually existed, heh heh…. Which is all the more reason to check out Gutbucket’s no-bullshit rawk. As Skynyrd said, ‘nuthin’ fancy.’ This is just simple, straight-ahead hard hittin’, Early Times swillin’ rawk, with a singer who sounds like a rougher Billy Idol mixed with John Garcia, callin’ the shots over a band who’s tight as hell and takin’ no prisoners. Yeah, they deviate from the path now and then, with a nod to doom (‘Double Golden Pleasure’) and even to Johnny Cash (‘The Man Who Sold His Soul’), but they never go too far before they’re back in that hard old saddle, rocking again. Fans of AC/DC, Daredevil, and Fu Manchu - and any kind of roaring stoner party tunes - take note. There’s nothing terribly new here, but that’s OK, just crank it up and you’ll be spoiling for a fight in no time. Just take it outside, buddy. www.gutbucket.net
