I got there just as Lovejoy took to the 6 inch high stage. Brother and sister combo in this band i believe their last name is actually lovejoy. The female (forgot her name) used to be in system 13 if i remember correctly.
Anyway they started off ok but lost me soon after. It's rock but its quite poppy hard rock with few stoner traces there. They sounded good for what they did but it's not something i'd go out of my way to see. To make it worse some girl was wandering the crowd trying to flog off their merch. G strings, bottle openers, join the mailing list?
I was looking forward to Forte as this was the first time i would see them after knowing the album quite well. The sound was fantastic it was that nice level of sounding like the album but still having that live aspect to it. Andy's voice is just as powerful live as on the album. I never realised how many good tracks there were on the album until last night. None of the songs they played last night were fillers. Every song they played was great. The only disappointment was they left the stage a little to early!
Rollerball were by far my favourite band back around 99/00. They seemed to be touring every couple of weeks. And of course i saw them every couple of weeks. But lately i just cant get into them as much. Tonight was a bit like this again. The sound was a little off especially for Dragon and Eye of the Storm. Some of the new tracks sounded pretty good.
The new bassist seems to be finding his way now and doing his own thing now. But i think its noticeable with the old songs that the cool bass sound is missing now. It's a little to clean. It was a good show, lots of people got into it and Rollerball did one of their few encore's (Evie). I just feel that they have lost a lot from those early days.
Damn good night though. Especially when Andy from Forte said the Clutch tour might still happen. ;D ;D ;D
