Suimasen - Self Titled
Review - Matt Frighetto
From The ashes of 7 Zuma 7, comes Suimasen a blend of dark melodic mood music mixed with relaxed mind blowing rock!! This there first offering sets a great cruisy vibe and an insight into perhaps a new genre of the so-called “stoner” scene. At first I expected Suimasen to take off where 7 Zuma 7 left off, but to my surprise, they showed me a new and totally different way of rock.
This three piece from Holland has some of the best and weird sounding riffs I have heard to date, so moving and although not doomy a very evil yet peaceful feel. This record is not heavy, it is mellow but an awesome mellow, that really makes you think whilst listening to it. Vocals are pure and clean and the drumbeats that follow are outstanding and full. Suimasen’s sound is pretty much on its own, but I would say very similar to Sunny Day Real Estate and mellow Celestial Season in the way that they can throw a huge build up and come straight back to a very mellow die down.
Track listings are:
Brother
Fears and Feathers
Car
Sonik Pony
World on Fire
La Mort en Directe
Love
November Call
Stand out tracks are Brother, Sonik Pony, Love and November Call. I strongly recommend this record to anyone looking for a good cruisy vibe, after a few listens it will have you hooked and you will want more!! Suimasen have just about finished their next record, a title at yet I don’t know but I will be interested to see what they will produce this time round. Cool stuff Nick thanks for introducing your music to me. Keep up the great stuff.....
9/10
