Unfortunately I had to work all weekend so I missed getting to see Bloodies and Stiffies support the Dwarves but Tuesday at the Tote was for me. I got there really early thinking that it was going to sell out but obviously me and about five other people had got it wrong! Anyway after playing a couple of games of pool with two full on techno rave heads who had never heard of the Dwarves before the Detonators took the stage fronted by Ritchie (at least I think it was Ritchie??) dressed like Fred Flintstone topped off with a warik capper wig. The line up of the Detonators changes almost every time they play but their music stays the same.... kinda crap! this is only my opinion of course but they just didn't do it for me, there were three guitarists and I'm pretty sure one of them was out of tune which made me wince through every song. They were obviously living it up in the same vein as the Dwarves and finished after playing only about five songs. Mustang were up next and they were the first to acknowledge that they were starting their set about three quarters of an hour after they were supposed to. These guys really rocked, it was the first time that I had seen them and they remind me of between say the Hellacopters and the new bomb turks or something. So anyway they played a very tight set and jammed heaps of rock attitude in between every song, I was standing watching there last song enjoying a free sausage supplied by the tote when they threw a jug of water all over me but hey you get that when you stand too close to the animals! Melbourne people if you haven't seen these guys then get out there cos they are gauranteed to put on a good one.
Last on the bill the Dwarves took the stage to a by now fairly packed band room and they did not dissapoint. I'd heard mixed reviews from the weekend, that Friday night show was kinda crap and that Saturday was good so I wasn't sure which way it would go but for the next half an hour I was stunned by the band and the crowd. I couldn't figure out how the bass player was managing to still play a tune when pretty much the whole time he was up there his bass was above his head but it was still really tight. The crowd amazed me in that almost everyone at the front was singing their songs word for word, I guess this is because I have only got one of their cds but anyway. Blag didn't have much else to say than "C'mon" but in word I would have to say it was just powerful shit. Stand out tracks were "Back seat of my car" and "unrepentant" but everything was good and on top of it all I got pissed! Sweet.
