THE ROLL-ON EFFECT Asystole EP (Independent) Considering the independent nature of this EP, the final outcome is indeed of some decent quality. Professional artwork and layout, top-notch production and strong tunes – if you dig on commercialised hard rock. In the vein of Fuel, Three Doors Down, and any number of Nickelback -type bands, The Roll-On Effect may just have the chops to get a break, if they lose their horrid eighties influence. The opening track ‘About You’ is as radiorock as they come: restrained verses or followed by explosive choruses backed by a driving riff, and strong vocals – albeit a little nasally at times. ‘As He Stole’ introduces a string section to the format, demonstrating a clear understanding of what stations such as Triple M are on the look-out for. A romantic ballad, the tune stops short of anything extraordinary, but follows the paint-by-numbers their predecessors have left for them. ‘Somebody Like’ is perhaps the band’s weakest link, with it’s Jet-like introduction and boring as eighties-rock choruses – think Poison without the glamour. ‘Picture Frames’ continues the eighties path with strong Bon Jovi references, while ‘Twin’ returns to the punch the band originally opened with. The final track is an instrumental of ‘As He Stole’, which seems somewhat redundant, unless they’re pitching to karaoke bars. www.rolloneffect.com

Yeah i think the band is big in Japan in karaoke bars. No seriously, I think the reason for the instrumental track at the end is simply budget. The band figured the track would suit as a soundtrack but couldn't afford to place in on a separate cd. And they we're right! It has been added to an Aussie movie soon to be released.
What ever you do. See this band live!
