, Well in case you didn't feel like showing up a great night was had by all. Club 77 is a hole in the ground down a flight of stairs and suits the darker sounds the bands put out perfectly, red velvet curtains fucking cool and worth the $7 it cost me to get in here...Ohh and they sell Absinthe!!!Prol_Tung were a rather mellow way of starting things an awesome chic singer, banjo, piano and an assortment of gentle instruments, kind of reminiscent of Mazzy Star and an opposite contrast to the wall of sound that is Hee Haw. I spotted singer/guitarist Lax Charisma downing Absinthe shots at the bar before their set so I knew it was going to be interesting. They had a 30 minute set so they basically played all the songs of their "How To Pay Your Debts When You're" a Genius" e.p. and a Nick Cave cover. Big Jesus Trash Can sounded low and huge, Counsel Chambers pounded his skins until they were spray painted with blood and Lax Charisma spent most of the gig on top of his quadbox like some macabre conductor of evil feedback. The Useful Box continued this thread although with more acoustic instruments bringing the heavy notch back a touch only a touch mind you they are still abrasive as all hell. It very nearly changed my opinion of Pretensionville (Sydney) although why people sat during Hee Haw's set I don't know, mesmerized apparently or tripping on Absinthe...Fucking awesome night!!!
