i was on the train today and overheard a bunch of old dears commenting on how wrong it would be to commit troops to the war on iraq w/out UN support. they compared this current push for australian involvement to that of vietnam - which they of course would have grave recollections of. and while these views and comparisons are certainly not isolated, it just got me thinking. for once in my life it seems that a contentious issue has been agreed upon by the young and old alike. it struck me as rare occurrence. for the most part i find myself at the opposite end of the ideological spectrum than the elderly. they have been through many more wars than us young folk and to a degree i feel their hearts have been hardened as a result. yet when we speak about a new war, we all agree. 'tis a beautiful thing - agreement.

I was having a similar conversation with my nan recently about it and was fairly surpised to hear the same kind of anti war comments from her, it was probably the first time I've had any kind of political discussion with her and agreed.Apart from the last election when I helped convince her to Vote for the Greens.

You've probably all got this (the australians anyway) as I got this many times over the last few days : Hello All~ This is an ABC Poll, 2000 votes isn't going to move John Howard much but a million votes will. Please take a second to complete this & pass it onto your friends with a real urgency. www.abc.net.au/news/poll1/vote/please, there is not a lot we can do, but this is something we can do that will make a difference if enough people yell loud enough!!!!!

Jeb: that poll link just leads to a root directory. Write: I think I am getting old. I mean, when I waffle on about Danger Mouse and The Goodies no-one seems to know what I'm talkign about. Not only, it just dawned on me that people born in the eighties are allowed to drive. That's scary! DID: You sure do have a way with words TEXT

The poll is probably over, it was working yesterday. People born in the nineties will be able to drive in a few years!

I've seen her around a few times... she was doing that womens against war in Iraq thing on the Parliment house steps in melb. I also saw her with a bug peace banner outside Parliment house canberra. Yeah she has turned into a bit of a teenage reveler. Thanks maxi.... ;D I knew you'd like my poem. Very insightfull isn't it....

Michael Organ (our federal mp here in wollongong) is wearing some form of anti war shirt on the front page of today's advertiser so I assume the Greens are pushing them somewhere.
