The stoner/doom community in Poland seems to be about as vital as the scene here where I live: in short, virtually non-existent. The men in Elvis de Luxe were saddened by this, but rather than sitting around bitching, they set out to do something about it.
The result is a tasty EP full of desert goodness. Unfortunately there aren’t any song titles listed, but several listens will give you a feel for what these guys can do. The inspiration is the hot, dry environs of desert California as seen through the drug-distorted lens of our old friends Kyuss and QOTSA. Just run that through a Swedish stoner filter and you’ll have a most satisfying first effort. The tuneage is chock full o’ crunch, with Homme-y guitars and abundant grooves.
This tried-and-true formula has been done to death, of course, but I’ve got a big soft spot for it, and in any case Elvis de Luxe puts its own big-ass stamp on things. Support our Polish brethren!
