I stepped outsided of my 'usual' music comfort zone and went and experienced a night of metal at the Healer in Brisbane on Saturday night.
King Mungi were launching their mini-album 'Fear The Little People' so I went to support them and their label Rhythm Ace. Joining King Mungi in support of their much anticipated cd launch were Chilblain and label mates Filler.
Chilblain kicked-off proceedings and pounded a sound that relied on the rap-metal fusions of nu-metal and host of guitar effects. They gave a really energetic performance.
Filler were up next with their own distinct version groove oriented metal. I have to say that their performance was quite lacking and at times, very sloppy. This was reflected by some harsh comments from their vocalist throughout their set. At one stage he said something to the effect that their drummer was trigger-happy and these guys (referring to Filler's two guitarists) need to tune their guitars. They just didn't seem to have their shit together on Saturday night!
King Mungi followed Filler and by the time they were on they had quite a crowd their to support them! They all looked really psyched up for their perfomance and so they should have been after waiting something like 8 or 9 months to have their mini-album released! King Mungi are definitely a real tight unit and appear have quite a diverse range influences.
Their sound is typically influenced by bands such as System Of A Down and the like, but I am sure their is a whole host more of influences. All up they played a really good set and managed to feed off the energy of everyone their to support them.
Congratulations on the launch guys!
