How bout this line up for a gig! Needless to say i've been hanging out for this for months. Especially since i managed to time it so i was out of the country last time the Fu came to brisbane.
Rollerball hit the stage rather suddenly and i was surprised at i had expected forte to open. Mainly due to the hometown-ish popularity. For me the difference in bass sound was instantly obvious. FGM later mentioned how the new bassist doesnt use any pedals. The first couple of songs were a bit disapointing in my view. But from lake of life onwards it was much better. The new sound is cleaner and not quite as stoner though the album should be good either way.
Forte had a great sound tonight and the songs i knew went down really well. Especially momentum. I spaced out a bit during the tracks i didn't know but they still sounded damn good. A mate who is more into forte than me seemed to think they were awesome.
Fu manchu fucken rocked. The sound was fantastic again, if only a little too clean for the older songs. I think the new drummer is good enough that they definitely haven't lost anything from brant. The next album will tell us if he is better or not.
They opened with Eatin' Dust and Hell on wheels. I'll probably miss 1 or 2 but i recall them playing:
Asphalt Risin' (easily the best) Wurkin', Over the edge, boogie van, king of the road, mongoose, california crossing, squash that fly, downtown in dogtown, laserbl'ast!, unknown world, anodizer (with drum solo) Encore comprised of: Evil eye, weird beard, Saturn III.
I would have prefered more older stuff off 'in search of' and 'eatin' dust', than all the stuff from king of the road & Cal crossing. But i guess that was always unlikely. Asphalt risin' fucken rocked though. Pity we don't get to see these guys regularly. I'd be there everytime.
