Excellent turnout at the Arthouse for this gig, most people I've seen there for some time, maybe ever.
Only caught a few tracks of the first band of the night, they seemed decent enough but to be honest I actually dont know who they were and wasnt paying much attention. Dread were up next, played a tight, heavy set - good stuff, I think they played a new track in amongst things and it did sound good.
Pillow, after a lengthy absence from the live scene, havent lost any popularity and it seemed as if they hadnt had any sort of break at all. Pure rrrock entertainment is what they delivered. They amazed with their technical talents (some awesome drumming!!) and seem to do it so effortlessy too, they were just rockin out from start to finish and they had everyone up the front gettin into it. They played a fantastic new track as well, which had all the usual insane twists and turns that has become the Pillow trademark. They even did a bit of a medley of Mothertruckin, into I want to be Norwegian and cheekily threw in a bit of Lines on the Table from Dern. Maximum fun from the Pillow boys, hopefully its not so long between gigs for em next time.
Pod People came on and delivered a brutal serve of riffs. Most of their set seemed to be from Doom Saloon, great to hear a lot of those newer tracks! Started out with an excellent instrumental, and then proceeded to pull out some of the heaviest tracks I've heard in ages. King Tide, Roadblock were crushing, but the masterpiece was definitely Subterranean......pro-gravity songwriting of the highest order. Josh joked after the track that it was part 1 of a 20 part "twentygy". He also told a rather distasteful and disturbingly amusing joke about Julia Roberts hehehe. They finished off with the cover of SWING, and seeing as V happenned to be in attendance he was invited up for the vocals, with Brad switching to drums.
Great night of bands, that'd have to be pretty close to gig of the year for me so far (well, until tomorrow hopefully!!). Fun = Maximum ;D
ps - Oh yeah. there were all these homosexuals there, they kept trying to touch my ass. One of em was callin himself Slatts, and there was a dude called maxi-power and this other guy F-Rock. I was in more danger than an altar boy in a room full of priests lemme tell ya.
