Thought I'd start something so others can fill in the hazy parts for me. Oh, and the first half that I missed cause I'm always late.
Rocked up (late) just in time for Mustang? to start their classic rock fury. There's definately something I really like about these guys. Rock enough to fuck up and not care, tight enough to impress and fairly solid sound to back it up.
Ran into an ex-pisshead now known as maxi-weak for his excessive water consumption without a drop of alcohol. I hope he had a beer when he got home to dehydrate back to normal levels.
As usual I was there for Dread really, and they were better than ever. A couple of new songs midway through the set proved to be some of their best material yet. Songs off the unreleased 'Grunt EP' were tight, heavy and brutal as ever with the groove we love them for. Room 101, IMO, was probably the weakest song of the set and we all know how rock that song is (if you don't check out the website). This was the problem though - too rock and not enough Doom. With shouts of 'play something slow!' and 'fuckin slow it down!' Dread were back to their great form of slow, groove-laden fuzz doomrock.
Even with the half-stacks Dread's sound is mind-blowing and the new players are fitting in nicely and building in confidence. Roger Moore seems to be sporting a new haircut (possibly trying to lose the nickname) and Paul was a great find pounding the skins.
A trend at the Arthouse of a depleting crowd before the last couple of bands is becoming annoying and confusing. Why would you pay for a show, only to leave before the main act appears and before one can seriously expect to be drunk? I seem to arrive at the Arthouse just as everyone is leaving. (Maybe I just stumbled on the explanation).
Anyway, great bands, great sounds, good smoke and good beer makes for one awesome night. Thanks again Dread and look out for their next show!!
